About Us
First Roots Wild Roots is a nature-based early education program with centers in Hinesburg and Underhill, Vermont. We believe in play-based, outdoor experiences that are appropriate to each child's developmental level.
We value each family as a child's first teacher. We are committed to building a community where families feel connected to one another and to the greater Hinesburg and Underhill communities.
At First Roots-Wild Roots, we take care to select experienced, educated, kind, and caring teachers for our schools. Our programs are staffed by knowledgeable educators, including licensed educators and staff with higher degrees in related fields. We are committed to supporting the continued growth of our team and participate in professional development coursework that benefits our classrooms in unique ways. We became a S.E.E.D (Schools Excelling in Emotional Development) Certified school in 2024!
As an Eco-healthy Childcare certified program, we are also committed to making sustainable environmental choices and business practices both inside and outside of the classroom.

Our Story
In the Spring of 2011, we moved our family to Vermont with a goal of starting a sustainable business that would grow out of a union of our professional training and personal interests and make an important contribution to our community. Two years later, we acquired First Roots - Wild Roots (previously Annette's Preschool) in Hinesburg and began a journey to bring our vision of becoming the first-choice early care and education program in Chittenden county to life, despite the inquires from our then teenage children as to when our "hippie experiment would be over!" We have worked together as a couple for over 25 years on various community events, utilizing Andrew's financial training and commercial business experience along with Andrea's expertise in child development and community organizing. We are honored to have developed strong home-school relationships with each of our First Roots - Wild Roots and Treehouse families and to be able to see their children grow to become engaged, informed and compassionate future citizens of Vermont!
